General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress Johnson Asiedu Nketiah has assured Ghanaians that his party will come back stronger in 2020.

He made the comments shortly before the Electoral Commission's official declaration of the NPP's Nana Addo Dankwah as president elect of Ghana.

The humorous party secretary stated that the fact that the NDC has retreated does not mean they have have been defeated.

“If you retreat from a battle it does not mean defeat, we will return in 2020”, Johnson Asiedu Nketia said.

Prior to his comments, the outgoing John Dramani Mahama phoned Nana Addo to congratulate him on his victory.

He insisted that the NDC went into the elections to seek the mandate of Ghanaians to govern but if they have decided to choose a different party, the NDC accepts it.

He also layed emphasis on the fact that his party will do their homework, strategise and come back stronger.

President John Mahama has done the unprecedented by conceding defeat to the opposition leader, Nana Akufo-Addo, after a keenly contested presidential election, even before the official declaration.
